CREATIVE BRIEF

Logo + Menu Card Design For a Jap. Rest.
Project Version: PimTim Normal
Short brief: We are looking for a fun, joyous, fresh logo for the new face of a Japanese sushi restaurant and a Menu Card template/design.
Extra info:
Brief: Hi Creative Minds! ~ Help us shape the new face of our Restaurant!

First some background information on the business:
We're in the process of a takeover of a 15-year old Japanese Restaurant. In this effort, we want to give the restaurant a new name (which is Enjoii) and a new identity (fresh and modern). Pump in some fresh blood as it were. Also, introducing a new business model for this Restaurant. Accordingly, we'll be redesigning the interior of the building. Therefore, it's fitting to have a new logo with the new look.

Basically you will have three options in our restaurant, all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet, or ordering from a menu, which will be served in front of you from the tepan yaki, the last option being the new concept of an all-you-can-eat sushi+tepan yaki arrangement (check out extra info to get an impression of the concept). It is in the latter that we want to present ourselves the most. The food will be prepared in a very good care, and we want to stress healthy food too. This is found in the ingredients that we choose to use, or sometimes rather not use; The very reason why we will have fruishi’s on our menu (sushi prepared with fruit).

Logo Design:
The new name of the restaurant will be “enjoii” as mentioned earlier. This is actually an abbreviation of a few Japanese words I put together: “Egao no Joii”. Which loosely translates into “Smile out of Joy”. The other meaning, if you pronounce it, obviously is the word Enjoy!, as in “enjoy your dinner”. Our view is that everyone should be able to enjoy their food and find joy eating it. No matter where you are at when you eat. This shows our love for food and we want to bring our guests the same joy to consume it.

Our hope is to have a logo that can translate this. It should portray, joy, fun, fresh, cute, healthy food and have a hint of Japanese influence & sophistication. The logo should contain the name “enjoii” and a symbol of sorts that could also function as a standalone logo. It could be an animal like an animation of a cute turtle or fish. But I’m open for other idea’s too. As long as it conveys Joy and being fresh/modern. It also could contain a subtitle of a slogan if you may. I was thinking along the lines of “Enjoii, the taste of joy!” However, you’re free to make any suggestions. The use of neon glow for letters (subtle) is cool too, or vector based animations/shaping. I’d love to see some contrasting colors such as black/white/hint of pink or blue. Or any combination that makes a statement that you’re modern and fresh.

Menu Card Design:
Since, the concept of all-you-can-eat sushi/tepan yaki dishes is new to this restaurant, we would require a new menu card. For this design, I’m looking for an overall background/template of an menu. It’ll need a cover, a subtle background motive that goes through all the pages. For the cover you could put elements of the logo on it. Background should be pretty subtle and clean, as it will go through some modifications and editing with picture of the dishes and names of the dishes that need to be added. The menu will be a 6 pages layout 3 on each side, containing 2 fold lines. Please refer to the sumo example that is attached to this project, to get an idea of what I mean. The resolution should be in line with the example, however each page can use more width, few inches wider than a A3 format. Since we might need to fit 4 items on each row. But important is the cover and the background motive that goes through the menu. I’ll attach an example that gives you an idea of how it needs to looks like.

If I left out anything or if there're any unclearities, you can leave a message here. Thanks in advance!

@Fieno This example shows the prefered layout of the menu. Wit the direction of the brushstrokes being one movement through all the pages. In this way, the pages are somehow interlinked even if you fold the menu all out... Hope this helps clarify some things...

Hi guys,

Thanks for the entries this far. For future references on fonts.. I'd love to see something in the likes of the file I uploaded titled "inspiration logo". Together with some neat animation (the stars on that inspiration logo compliments the letters and overall style of the mock-logo). You're free to think out of the box and come up with anything that "says" joyous and fresh.

For the Menu card, it's not a given that every page should be of the same width. You could play around with how the pages fall together on one side and the other. Also, I'm open for any suggestions on how the proportions of the menu card could turn out. Mind that over 100 items (each of 100x100 resolution) should be able to fit on the menu card. That's why the sumo menu card serves as an example but it is in no way necessarily the standard to use.

As for the logo's. Thanks for all your entries guys, much appreciated. I'm curious to see what other cool joyous designs will turn up.
