PimTim introduces Pim van der Vossen |
An interview this time with the Creative Pim van der Vossen , The Netherlands. http://www.pimtim.com/members/677/folio
Pim, you are one of our Young Design Talents and you won 5 projects in the last three months. How did you do that?
Pim, you have a wonderful name, could you please tell something about yourself?
My name is Pim van der Vossen and I come from a small village near the coast called Noordwijkerhout, and at the age of 18 years I am one of the youngest designers on the site.
In my daily life I am busy studying for my final VWO exams in order to go to University. I would definitely like to continue my studies further at University but I am still undecided whether to study Architecture or Industrial design as both subjects interest me very much. More of me at www.pi-vo.nl
How did you became a designer?
Designing was just a hobby that got out of hand. I began on a community-forum of which I was a member, where I could turn my fantasies into signatures and avatars and at the same time learn and explore the possibilities with Photoshop. People got to know me through this and started sending me requests, before I knew it I was the resident designer of the web site, which had 10.000 members.
Not only on the internet but also at school my creativity was noticed and to this day my classmates are jealous of the layout of my projects which often take up more time than the actual content. Quickly people started to ask me to design posters for school and through this I got my first paid job designing posters for a discotheque . After a few years of tasks via the internet and school I discovered by chance PimTim.com where since last August I can be found daily.
You won 5 contests in the last couple of months, what is your secret?
I don’t really have any secrets, and if I did of course would keep them to myself. As with most of the designers on the site I listen to the wishes of the client and try as much as possible to immerse myself in their company. By keeping the requests of the customers in mind you can decide which ideas and wishes he or she requires , then using my own vision I hope to produce the right results.

PimTim introduces Lex Lawton |
Rudi, you won 6 projects in the last three months. How did you do that?
But first could you please tell something about yourself?
I'm 22 and grew up surrounded by a family of artists and designers. My sister Emma set up a design agency in London last year and I've been doing freelance work for her since then.
www.withthebrand.co.uk
I graduate from University College Falmouth (Cornwall) in the Summer and PimTim is a great opportunity for me to be a part of the industry and offer clients a fresh and original perspective. As a design student, the feedback I’ve had on PimTim has given me a lot of confidence, so this is a big thank you to all the buyers.
How did you became a designer?
My parents always told me to do what I enjoy and coming from such an 'arty' family it was almost inevitable for me to end up in art or design. I can appreciate fine art but the reason I wanted to become a designer was to give my work more of a purpose. There are few things better than watching one of your ideas develop, grow, and then to see it in context on the internet or in the 'real world'.
You won 6 contests in the last couple of months, what is your secret?
Usually it is just about making a connection with the client and actually understanding the 'feel' they want for their brand. The best way to do this is to read the brief carefully and then sketch the ideas that come to mind, however obscure! Ideas have to work and be clear, however badly you draw them, before you make the move onto the computer.

PimTim introduces Mariana |
An interview this time with the Creative Mariana Mateos Witting, http://www.pimtim.com/members/439/folio from Argentina:
Mariana, you won the One Creative World project. How did you do that…..

But first could you please tell something about yourself?
I am essentially curious, very analytical, generating thousand and thousand of ideas.
I always felt attracted to art, most of all painting, but I knew that design was more remunerative and stable as economic support, so I joined the UBA - University of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of Buenos Aires - and I graduated as Graphical Designer. I supported my studies being employed at printing offices and some small agencies, and there I knew the real goal of a designer which is: " see your client happy ".
How did you came up with the design for the One Creative World?
First of all, I thoroughly investigated the Pimtim group, read your blogs, your origins, comments and personal profiles, to be able to catch the aesthetics and visual preferences in the conceptual, formal, chromatic and typographical thing. This is essential, material of study must always exist before generating a project. It is very important to know tastes and ideologies of a client.

An interview this time with the Creative Nathan Lowenhart, Jakarta, Indonesia : http://www.pimtim.com/members/194/folio
Nathan, you have won 3 projects (!) in the last weeks. What is the secret of your success…..

But first could you please tell something about yourself?
I would say I am actually a simple down to earth guy. Born in Dec 26 1974 and I am the second child of 5. I'm currently live in Jakarta, Indonesia a very busy metropolitan city and currently have been working as a Creative Director for Andriani & Lowenhart a design firm of my own. I now live in a tiny simple place with my wife (dentist) and a puppy that I bought for my wife from one of the winning design prices previously and this little guy (Bo) has been my inspiration I guess. I suppose she'll keep my wife accompany to play around because I never have much free time.
How did you became a designer?
I was in an Art school in Seattle, USA back in 1993 - 1997 taking visual communication program. I first discovered my talent when I was a in high school but I never thought of entering an Art University or something until my Mom gave me that idea. I was doing pretty good at school back then but not until I graduated and started to get hired and discovered how tough and frustrating it was to deal with some weird bosses I worked with here. I moved around a lot and financially down to my feet.
What is the secret of your success?
If I were to describe the secret of my work …..

PimTim introduces Rien Stierman |
An interview this time with the Buyer Rien Stierman:
Rien, you are our number 1 client at PimTim by posting three projects (!). So we are quite curious of who you are and what drives you.
Please could you tell something about yourself?
I’m an e-commerce entrepreneur from Leiden, the Netherlands. I’ve been in online marketing since the stone ages (which was about 1994, if we’re talking about online marketing). I remember that when I registered my first domain name at NLnet, the guy who issued it (Ted Lindgreen) was willing to register it; ’’But you are not going to do commercial stuff on the Internet, are you? That’s forbidden!’’.
My entrepreneurial talents had not come into bloom yet in those days, so after quitting this venture I worked at companies like World Online (ISP), NedStat (Analytics) and Ipotentials (Investment Company, part of Newconomy, the Dutch stockmarket listed Internet Investment Fund).
After having an online advertising company with two associates, I got into e-commerce consultancy. ‘’Not listening customers’’ forced me to try my ideas at own shops, and nowadays I divide my time between consulting customers and my own e-commerce shops. Never a dull moment ;-)
You have posted 3 projects at PimTim, could you tell something about these ventures?
We are into down duvets. Apart from running an e-commerce shop ( www.donzendekbed.com), we are also creating a brand name down comforter, Dickenberg. We needed a logo for this one. We only recently heard of PimTim, and since we are loyal Dutchmen, we decided to give our compatriots a try. And it worked out nicely!
