An interview this time with the Creative Pim van der Vossen , The Netherlands. http://www.pimtim.com/members/677/folio
Pim, you are one of our Young Design Talents and you won 5 projects in the last three months. How did you do that?
Pim, you have a wonderful name, could you please tell something about yourself?
My name is Pim van der Vossen and I come from a small village near the coast called Noordwijkerhout, and at the age of 18 years I am one of the youngest designers on the site.
In my daily life I am busy studying for my final VWO exams in order to go to University. I would definitely like to continue my studies further at University but I am still undecided whether to study Architecture or Industrial design as both subjects interest me very much. More of me at www.pi-vo.nl
How did you became a designer?
Designing was just a hobby that got out of hand. I began on a community-forum of which I was a member, where I could turn my fantasies into signatures and avatars and at the same time learn and explore the possibilities with Photoshop. People got to know me through this and started sending me requests, before I knew it I was the resident designer of the web site, which had 10.000 members.
Not only on the internet but also at school my creativity was noticed and to this day my classmates are jealous of the layout of my projects which often take up more time than the actual content. Quickly people started to ask me to design posters for school and through this I got my first paid job designing posters for a discotheque . After a few years of tasks via the internet and school I discovered by chance PimTim.com where since last August I can be found daily.
You won 5 contests in the last couple of months, what is your secret?
I don’t really have any secrets, and if I did of course would keep them to myself. As with most of the designers on the site I listen to the wishes of the client and try as much as possible to immerse myself in their company. By keeping the requests of the customers in mind you can decide which ideas and wishes he or she requires , then using my own vision I hope to produce the right results.

Who or what inspires you?
There are no specific things or people that inspire me, often I begin simply with an illustration as a design. Sometimes it’s not exactly what I want but with work it ends with the right results, other times I have an idea from the beginning which I know will be good.
Which designs are you most proud of?
The design for VanOordt Packaging, I am the most proud of and which I won! The one for Nasa Matrassen is also one of my favorites, but this one I didn’t win (unimaginable……)
Do you have design specialities?
I try as much as possible to feel at home no matter what market I am targeting, every design project I throw myself into completely . I begin simply, expand my design into something satisfying or if I am not comfortable with the first design I just start again.
Is there life next to design?
I must say that the design of the objects and buildings in my surroundings always keep me busy and that I always make my feelings know if I am not in agreement or dislike something. One of my favorite expressions is “form follows function”. Everything in your surroundings is in a form, but does a form also have a function? Often in practice a form is anything but practical.
What does your workspace look like?
A picture says more than a thousand words.

Unfortunately I don’t have any sponsors and have saved everything by myself, with thanks to pimtim I have managed to get an upgrade so that Photoshop starts up in 3 seconds, when it used to take 1.5 minutes.
What do you do in your free time?
In my free time you can usually find me sitting behind my PC, or I am busy with Photoshop, Illustrator or any other picture design programs. However there is also life outside designing In the evenings and weekends I go out with my friends for a beer or to the disco, otherwise I can be found on the tennis courts or in the gym.
Thanks Pim and we wish you lots of success with other projects, regards PimTim
