An interview this time with the Creative Nathan Lowenhart, Jakarta, Indonesia : http://www.pimtim.com/members/194/folio
Nathan, you have won 3 projects (!) in the last weeks. What is the secret of your success…..

But first could you please tell something about yourself?
I would say I am actually a simple down to earth guy. Born in Dec 26 1974 and I am the second child of 5. I'm currently live in Jakarta, Indonesia a very busy metropolitan city and currently have been working as a Creative Director for Andriani & Lowenhart a design firm of my own. I now live in a tiny simple place with my wife (dentist) and a puppy that I bought for my wife from one of the winning design prices previously and this little guy (Bo) has been my inspiration I guess. I suppose she'll keep my wife accompany to play around because I never have much free time.
How did you became a designer?
I was in an Art school in Seattle, USA back in 1993 - 1997 taking visual communication program. I first discovered my talent when I was a in high school but I never thought of entering an Art University or something until my Mom gave me that idea. I was doing pretty good at school back then but not until I graduated and started to get hired and discovered how tough and frustrating it was to deal with some weird bosses I worked with here. I moved around a lot and financially down to my feet.
What is the secret of your success?
If I were to describe the secret of my work …..
Well, you know what, I was actually about to give up when I lost more than 10 projects, especially after losing the PIMTIM logo and web page. I thought this might not be the place for me. But I decided to give another try and I made it. I guess the secret is there's no secret. It's all about hard work and squeezing my brain to the top and scream on top of my lung: Never give up and yup, keep the faith just like you said.
I think a sharper analysis of the client's brief is the key to the next idea exploration. I normally spend a lot of time to analyze the brief carefully and make some rough sketches on some concept before configuring the design in the computer. I am so thankful for finding PimTim.
Do you have design-specialties?
I would say I am specialized in Corporate Identity design & Branding and I have been focusing my strategy on that.
Which designs are you most proud of?
I am basically proud of all my designs because it's all comes from every sweat drops. But I would say the Ventiz and some other project like the "BlackBee" from other competition and many more.

Is there a life next to design?
Yes, of course there is but unfortunately all these time, my life has been rather dull due to too much work and no play I guess. I spend an average of 17 hours at work everyday and it means less sleep and meal time. I know it sucks, but I am learning to organize my timetable to adjust with tight deadline schedule. I've been trying to participate as many competitions as possible out there simply because this is the only source of income I have for now.
How does your workspace look like?
Well, I tried to roughly visualize my working space on the picture there. I couldn't show the whole room due to many unorganized wires, cables and stuffs but I hope it's fine with you. My workspace is right beside my bedroom and it's about 3 x 4m just like a little studio apartment and it's rather tight but just fine.
What do you do in your freetime?
I always try to spend time with my wife and Bo (puppy) whenever I got a free time like have some walk on the park and surprisingly at late night time. Taking 1-2 hours driving around the city at night time to avoid terrible traffic here. Other than that, I sometimes see movies in a theatre and dinner and spend time at Starbucks coffee to get relax. No more flirting and clubbing after marriage, oh man ;o(.
Thank you very much for this interview and we wish you lots of success.
